Do not let your heart be troubled

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

– 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

I have not met a person that live in total peace every single moment of his life.  All people experience fear or anxiety in different forms. If you just think of the past year. Did you have no fear or worries for every moment of every day? I don’t think so and neither did I. There is therefore room for us to grow in this.

Jesus says, “Do not let your heart be troubled,” (John 14:1) which implies that it is totally possible for us to constantly experience perfect peace. If it was not possible for us to have our hearts free from fear, Jesus would never have said it. There is a life that we can have which is totally free from any worry or fear.  The question is, how will we be free from having a troubled heart? Well, Jesus gave us the answer in the same verse 1 of John 14. It says, “You believe in God, believe also in me.” This means that the answer is not that you should try and not have a troubled heart, but that you should believe in Jesus and that will lead to your heart being at rest. So, faith in Jesus is the opposite of anxiety, fear, and stress.

Jesus says a second time in John 14 verse 27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  In 2 Timothy 1 verse 7 there is also an encouragement that says that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of a sound mind. In other words, Paul was saying in his letter to Timothy, I know your heart is full of trouble for I’m speaking to a normal person that is used to a life of worry and stress, but what you are experiencing is not from God. God is the one that left you His peace and gave you a sound mind. If the Son of God said to them that there is no reason for them to fear, then I want to say to you that God is saying to you today: “There is no reason for you to fear!”

I want to experience more of this life where I’m free from all worries! That song comes to my mind that says, “Let your living waters, flow over my soul; let your Holy Spirit come and take control, of every situation that has troubled my mind; all my cares and burdens unto you I roll.”

My encouragement for you today is to go to Jesus, go and sit at His feet.  By faith just go to a place or room where you are alone and just start speaking to Him. He is your Father. You can tell him about every single thing that troubles your heart and weighs you down. Allow Him to speak His words of life to you. Faith will effortlessly arise in your heart, and you will walk out with His peace ruling your heart. Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

You will be fearless!
