Love made visible

God is love. – 1 John 4:8

God demonstrated His great love for us by sending His only son to die for us on the cross. When we want to see what love really looks like, we need to look at the cross of Jesus. The cross is an expression of God’s love for us. This is real love: “Greater love has no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends…” John 15:13. There is no greater love than God’s love and the Bible further reveals that God’s love has been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). The love of God is in our hearts, but we do not always experience this love.

So many people try to love God and other people. They try and love a God whom they don’t know, and they have no knowledge of how much He loves them. Trying to love is like a car without an engine. No matter how hard you try, this car will just stay right where it is. If you want to get it somewhere you have to push it with all your strength. On the other hand, there is no limits to where a car can go if it does have an engine that is working. The car moves without your effort. The moment we encounter His love for ourselves it heals our hearts and takes off the limits in our lives. God’s love is the greatest force on earth. In 2 Cor. 5 verse 14 Paul says, “For the love of Christ controls and compels us…”

Jesus said, “But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.” John 4:14. Included in the living waters that God gives is His love. Like with everything else that you want to receive from God you must start by drinking. You start drinking from the fountain of His love and His love becomes a fountain in you. It will well up from inside. You will love as a result of the fact that you experience His love. We love Him because He first loves us (1 John 4:19).

Love is expressed through things we do. I want to encourage you, as your full attention is set on receiving God’s love for yourself, to take steps that will show the love of God to others. Put yourself in a position to give and demonstrate God’s love to other people. Love can be expressed through a smile, a small act of kindness, praying for others, helping others, or giving… There is no end to the list. You have the love of God in your heart and as you take a step in giving it out, you will see and experience those streams of living water flowing from within you. It will transform you and the world around you. On a daily basis you can drink from your own well or fountain (the Spirit of God in you) and also minister to others by releasing the living waters.

Truly the Love of God is the answer, and it will change everything in our lives. Nothing is stronger than the Love of God.
