God with us

[I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] – Hebrews 13:8 (AMP)

When I just got born again, I went with a group of students on an outreach to Thailand. On the last day of the outreach, we went for a walk in the city of Bangkok. The street was swarming with cars and people going about their business. The next moment a mother came running towards us with a boy in her arms, shouting “hospital, hospital!” The boy had a very high fever and was hanging limp in his mother’s arms. I could see that this was an emergency. We did not know where a hospital was and we also had no money to help her, so I decided to lay my hands on the boy and pray. At that time healing was still very new to me, but it was in a time that I started reading about healing and miracles that were happening through believers. I prayed for about 20 minutes, and nothing happened. I just became quiet, started crying and said to God, “I know that if You were here, you would not have left this child like this.” Suddenly, it was like a light went on and I realised, “But God is with me!” At the same time that those words dropped in my heart, the boy jumped up, perfectly normal!  We were all in awe of the miracle that happened. In a moment of realising that Jesus is with me, I saw an impossible situation turn around completely.

Maybe you feel that God is far from you, or maybe you think that you have to wait for one day, when Jesus comes again, before you can be with God. The truth is that God is with you, and He is also in you.  You can enjoy a life in his presence and experience miraculous things today! It is not reserved for one day.

In Ezekiel 37 a prophecy was given saying that God will be with his people and that He will be their God. Then Jesus came and He prepared a dwelling place for us when He died on the cross (John 14) and opened up the way for us to enter into the presence of God. Ephesians chapter 2 also says that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places. You are a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). God is your dwelling place, and you are His dwelling place. “What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (2 Cor 6:16). Then in Revelation 21 it is written, “…and they shall be His people, and God shall personally be with them and be their God.” This is true right now if we use scripture to declare the meaning of scripture. Most people read the book of Revelation in a futuristic sense and do not realise that we need to use scripture to declare the meaning and times of other scriptures. So, we understand that right now God is with us, and we are His people. For example, Jesus said the following when He died on the cross, “It is finished!” You find the exact same words in Revelation 21 verse 6. That same verse also mentions that He will give water of life to the thirsty from the spring or river of life. Jesus stood up on the last day of the feast and invited everyone to come and drink freely from the water and it will become rivers of living water in them. John 7 verse 37, 38.

God came to make His abode with men, and He is here to stay with us. The fact that we do not see Him physically doesn’t mean that He is not with us. The Father and Jesus is with us through the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. I believe that as we grow in our revelation that He is with us, we will also experience in reality the signs, wonders and miracles; demonstrating that He is with us.

Emmanuel! God is with us. He is in us and we are in Him.
