Soaring high

They shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun].

– Isaiah 40:31 (AMP)

“There once was a farmer who picked up an egg of an eagle in the field. He took the egg and placed it with some chicken eggs to hatch. After some time, the eaglet hatched, and grew up with his chicken brothers and sisters. He did everything that the chickens did. He scratched in the ground here and scratched there and just lived a normal chicken life. But one day that he heard a cry from the sky. He recognized that it was his mother’s voice and immediately he spread out his wings and started flapping them. He went up into the sky to fly with his mother and together they soared high above, never to return to the normal life of living like a chicken.”

I love to use this story in order for us to realize what happens to us as believers many times. We who are born-again – born from above, have a complete new nature in Christ. We are not only normal human beings, but we are sons of the Most High God. We are “eagles” and not “chickens.” But many believers live as if they are chickens. They live as if they are still normal human beings whilst they have Christ living on the inside of them. Don’t feel condemned now. We are all in the same boat. We are all experiencing an identity crisis to a certain extent and this identity crisis is fuelled even further by preaching that fails to tell you about who Christ made you to be. People go to church Sunday after Sunday just to hear how sinful they are and how they are not making it. It is as if they hear in church: “Try harder, chicken. Be better, chicken, fly like and eagle, you chicken…” All they hear is that they are chickens but that it is expected of them to fly like eagles. They never hear the truth that tells them they are eagles! It is impossible to ever live like an eagle if you constantly hear you are a chicken. You need to believe you are an eagle in order to soar like an eagle.

When we get established in who we are, we will effortlessly live like Christ. We will soar high above all natural things and enjoy true freedom in Christ. The moment God speaks to us concerning who he made us to be, all natural limitations start to lose its grip on our lives. To think that we are stuck in our circumstances and that we must simply accept everything that comes our way is a complete lie. It is an utter slap in the face of Grace if we think that we have to be bound by normal situations and that there is no way out of it. We were born for so much more. We are on this earth to shine forth the glory of God. We are called to rule as kings in the kingdom that we are in. An example of the eagle life is explained in Psalm 91: “No evil shall befall you; no plague or calamity come near your tent.” Even when everything around you seems like its falling apart, ten thousand falling at your right, the promise is that nothing will come near you. This is a glimpse of the life that we can enjoy on earth as believers.  God is calling you and me to come up higher. He is not calling us higher as in altitude, but higher to come and live from heaven and with His perspective right here on earth.

Revelation 4 verse 1 “After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me like [the calling of] a war trumpet said, Come up here…”
