Knowing Him

[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly]…- Philippians 3:10 (AMP)

Our life goal as believers is to know Jesus and to discover the truth of who He is and who we are in Him.  I once had a dream of myself going round a mountain and Jesus was walking next to me. We were going round and round the mountain all the way to the top. On our way to the top we stopped and Jesus showed me a beautiful waterfall. He said, “Marnes look, I want you to see this.”  I remember feeling like I want to go on in order the get to the top, but Jesus further said to me that He is showing me a part of Himself and he wants me to see it. We walked on and after a while Jesus said, “Look here, I want you to see these beautiful flowers.” I again wanted to move on and He encouraged me to embrace the moment and just enjoy the flowers. So Jesus took me all around this mountain and we went higher and higher.  When we reached the top I looked at Jesus and I saw an image of myself – I looked exactly like Him!  From the top of the mountain, I could see everything concerning the mountain; the waterfall, the flowers, everything.  Jesus said to me, “The journey of your life is to know me more and more and one day you will know me perfectly. But now just walk with me and allow me to show myself to you.”

Since I’ve discovered this beautiful truth, I’ve been praying a simple prayer every morning when I open my eyes: “Jesus, I want to know you more today than yesterday.” I live with an expectation that Jesus is going to reveal Himself to me. I expect miracles and good things to happen, because I know He is going to reveal Himself. Yes, I get distracted many times but I then turn to Jesus again and continue with the journey. This is true life. I’m saying with Paul that, “I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” (Phil 3:8). To know Jesus is to know God. Phillip said to Jesus, “Show us the Father and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with all of you for so long a time, and do you not recognize and know Me yet, Philip? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say then, Show us the Father?” (John 14:8 & 9)

As you pursue a personal relationship with Jesus and put all your attention on Him, He takes care of you.  It is His responsibility to look after you.  He wants to take care of every detail of your life. We are so busy taking care of ourselves and everything that concerns our lives that we have no time left to get to know Jesus. Sometimes we live like people who have no God. We are stressed and we worry about everyone and everything. Do you realise that we have a God in our lives that loves us? He is our loving Father.  He said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  Surely you’ll fear less the moment you get to know this almighty God. Surely, you’ll see your needs being met as you taste and see that He is only good!

Go and enjoy Jesus!
